Pasadena : Centennial Funds Given Out

The Pasadena Centennial Coordinating Committee has distributed $68,000 in surplus contributions to help pay for a video history of the city, create a centennial room in the east part of the main library and support an after-school tutoring project.
About $36,000 of the committee’s surplus will go toward the production of the one-hour video history, a joint project of the committee and the Pasadena Unified School District. The district will use the tape as part of its community studies curriculum, said Tom Branigan, a spokesman for the centennial committee.
The group also donated $20,000 to the Pasadena Public Library Foundation to start work on its $200,000 Centennial Room, which will house centennial memorabilia and the city’s historical collection. Another $12,000 is going to the Pasadena Educational Foundation’s Tutoring and Homework Assistance Network, a public and privately funded project that provides tutoring for Pasadena students from kindergarten through the 12th grade.
The committee previously had distributed about one-third of the $100,000 surplus from contributions to the summer’s centennial festivities.
