A San Diego man suffered minor burns to his face and an arm Wednesday when his cigarette ignited vapors from the gasoline he was pouring from one container into another, fire officials said.
Todd Peachey, 20, suffered second-degree burns to his arm and minor burns to his face, San Diego Fire Department spokesman Larry Stewart said. Peachey refused to be transported to a hospital.
Twenty firefighters arrived at the 2500 block of Caulfield Drive in South San Diego about 10:30 a.m. and found the garage and a vehicle inside engulfed in flames. The fire was extinguished in 15 minutes, Stewart said. A car in the driveway sustained minor damage.
Fire officials estimated damage at $60,000.
