Lorimar-Telepictures said it has formed a new subsidiary to oversee its motion picture production and to establish a distribution company in the United States. The Culver City-based company said it has recruited Peter Chernin, a pay television executive, as the new unit’s president and chief operating officer.
Producer and manager Bernie Brillstein was named chairman and chief executive of the new unit, called Lorimar Film Entertainment. Brillstein has been operating his Brillstein Co. as an autonomous unit of Lorimar-Telepictures since May, 1986.
Chernin served most recently as executive vice president of programming and marketing for Showtime/The Movie Channel. Before 1983, he served as vice president-development at the David Gerber Co. for five years.
The company said its Lorimar Motion Pictures unit, headed by Craig Baumgarten, will operate as a division of the new company.
