A 26-year-old man was shot and killed Wednesday after an argument with an acquaintance who later escaped a manhunt in a Southside neighborhood, San Diego police said.
Witnesses told police that a man was inside the apartment of Roger Lee Thomas at 3:18 a.m. in the 4000 block of National Avenue and became involved in an altercation with Thomas, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
The acquaintance drew a handgun and shot Thomas in the chest, police said. Thomas died at the scene, the spokesman said.
After interviewing witnesses, police went to a home in the 3700 block of Boston Avenue where they believed the gunman was staying. After an unsuccessful search of the home and surrounding neighborhood, police called off the manhunt, Robinson said.
Police were seeking Lazaro Alfonso, 24, who was described as a black Cuban, 5-foot-9 tall, with a thin build.
