United Technologies Corp. of Hartford, Conn., posted a loss for the fourth quarter of 1986 after a provision for restructuring and employee severance. Net income for the full year, after the provision, decreased $240 million, compared to the 1985 year. The firm’s 1986 results, though clearly unacceptable, were expected, a spokesman said. However, they reflect UTC’s efforts to refocus on the strengths and potential of its core businesses, he added.
