Two South Korean police officers were indicted for torturing a student to death during an interrogation, the Seoul District Prosecution Office said. Chief prosecutor Chung Ku Yong said the two police officers were charged with “causing death by brutal acts,” which could bring a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. Chung confirmed earlier police accounts that the student suffocated when his throat was pressed against the edge of a bathtub. The incident caused an uproar and resulted in the dismissal of the home minister and the director of national police.
