The problem with “POW--Americans in Enemy Hands: World War II, Korea and Vietnam” is illustrated by its title. Too much is packed in too small a space.
Produced by Arnold Shapiro, the syndicated documentary airs at 9 tonight on KTTV Channel 11.
Unlike a recent documentary about American MIAs in Indochina (“We Can Keep You Forever” on KHJ-TV Channel 9), this program is not investigatory. Instead, American POWs from three wars recall their experiences for the camera.
Many of their anecdotes are quite moving. However, by lumping together veterans of three wars, the program tends to homogenize them and render all wars and all POWs equal. The result is superficiality.
