St. Paul-based Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co. reported that its 1986 profit improved 17%, due mostly to the decline of the dollar. Sales for the year increased 10% for the period. A spokesman said that reduced costs because of the weaker dollar overseas helped to offset continuing price wars that have been squeezing 3M’s videocassette and computer-diskette businesses.
