A 40-year-old house painter was charged with attempted murder after his car smashed into a Los Angeles police motorcycle officer, the district attorney’s office said. Investigators said Robert Clark drove through a red light at the intersection of Temple and Virgil streets, aimed his car at the officer and struck the motorcycle on the left side, causing it to spin. The officer, Vincent Vicarri, slid off the cycle and fired his revolver at Clark three times, striking the vehicle but not the suspect. Vicarri suffered cuts and bruises but was not hospitalized, the district attorney’s office said. Clark, who lives in the area where the incident occurred, was also charged with assault with a deadly weapon on an officer, felony hit and run and drunk driving. He is scheduled to be arraigned today.
