John T. Steinbock, auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Orange, has been named head of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Santa Rosa in Northern California. Fluent in Spanish, Steinbock, 49, was sent to Orange County in 1984 from St. Vibiana’s Cathedral in downtown Los Angeles to assist presiding Bishop William R. Johnson, who was ill, and to help address the needs of the growing number of Spanish-speaking parishioners.
