Connors Beats Davis on 7th Match Point

PHILADELPHIA — Second-seeded Jimmy Connors took advantage of his seventh match point Thursday night to beat Scott Davis, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, and advance to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Pro Indoor Tennis Championships.

Fourth-seeded John McEnroe also advanced, with a 6-2, 6-1, victory over Tomas Smid.

In other matches, fifth-seeded Tim Mayotte defeated Ben Testerman, 6-2, 6-2, while sixth-seeded Emilio Sanchez and seventh-seeded Tim Wilkison were upset.

Sanchez lost to 11th-seeded Jakob Hlasek, 6-7, 7-5, 6-4, and Wilkison was defeated by Milan Srejber, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
