A high-speed police chase through Hyattsville, Md., Tuesday morning ended with Brian Tribble fleeing from police on foot, authorities said. Tribble has been charged in the cocaine-induced death of Len Bias, former University of Maryland basketball star, and is awaiting a March trial.
Police said that the chase began when Tribble’s car was clocked going 71 m.p.h. in a 35-m.p.h. zone. A Hyattsville police officer told a Washington television station that he got a good look at the driver of the car, and that the man was Tribble.
Police impounded the car in question, a 1979 Mercedes-Benz, that records show belongs to Tribble.
If Tribble wants the car back, he will have to appear and face traffic charges of speeding, reckless driving, fleeing and eluding a police officer, and turning off lights to avoid detection, authorities said.
Tribble is facing trial on charges of cocaine possession and distribution stemming from Bias’ death last June 19.
