SAN DIEGO — San Diego State’s basketball team may have its best chance of gaining its first Western Athletic Conference victory tonight when the Aztecs (0-13, 2-23) play host to Hawaii (2-11, 7-17).
Tonight’s 7:30 game begins a final three-game home stand for SDSU. Poor shooting continues to plague the Aztecs, who are shooting 38% for the season. SDSU made 23 of 65 shots from the field Thursday in an 85-73 loss to Wyoming.
Freshman Tony Ross, averaging 17 points a game, is one of the few bright spots for SDSU. Darryl Gaines had his best conference game of the season at Wyoming, scoring 20 points.
Hawaii, which lost, 69-62, at Colorado State Thursday, has only one road victory this season. The Rainbows are led by freshman Chris Gaines, averaging 17 points a game.
