A telephone tip led to the recovery of a $70,000 violin stolen at knifepoint from a musician in New York, police said. The rare 18th-Century violin was returned to its owner Friday after an identified Bronx pawnbroker turned it into police, said 34th precinct robbery squad Sgt. Gerard Gorman. The pawnbroker paid $50 for it a day earlier, Gorman said. “He said he heard about it on the radio this morning and said he might have the violin,” Gorman said. The violin was stolen from Mayuki Fukuhara as he was returning from a performance at Carnegie Hall late on Feb. 17, police said. Police arrested one man and charged him with the theft.
