A study by the National Assn. of Social Workers, the nation’s largest social workers group, shows that 60% of single female parents surveyed believe their families are stronger than those with two parents and 25% believe theirs are just as strong. The study conducted in 12 states, including California, and the District of Columbia, cited helpful relatives and friends, family harmony and development of personal qualities such as independence and determination as reasons for the perceptions.
