SOUTHERN SECTION GIRLS’ BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES : 1-A : Atascadero vs. Valley Christian

Top-ranked Cerritos Valley Christian meets Atascadero tonight in the Girls Southern Section 1-A championship game at 7 p.m. at Cerritos College.
Valley Christian (24-2) cruised to the Olympic League championship with a senior-dominated team that won the Southern Section title in 1985 as sophomores.
Senior Kari Parriott, Valley Christian’s 6-3 All-Southern Section center, is averaging 30 points and 12 rebounds a game. Two-time All-Southern Section forward Donna Pollema (6-2) is averaging 19 points and 10 rebounds a game.
Last season, Valley Christian lost to Atascadero, 60-55, in a semifinal game at Atascadero.
Atascadero (22-2), last season’s 1-A runner-up to Santa Clara, won its third straight Los Padres League championship with a team that relies on quickness and versatility rather than size.
Senior forward Cindy Morris is Atascadero’s leading scorer, averaging 15 points and nine rebounds.
