ATHENS — Temperatures in Greece sank to their lowest level in 30 years Friday, and snow blanketed Crete, the southernmost island of the Mediterranean country, the weather service said.
Temperatures plunged to 26.6 degrees Fahrenheit in the northern suburbs of Athens and to 14.8 degrees below zero in the northern town of Soufli near the Greek border with Turkey.
Police said that two people have frozen to death since the cold snap began, but unconfirmed newspaper reports Friday said that up to seven people have died.
