COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS : Santa Monica Swim Teams Cruise to Easy Conference Victories Over Pierce

Norm Skorge and Dain Hurst won individual events but Pierce College lost to Santa Monica, 55-24, in a Western State Conference men’s swim meet Friday at Pierce.

Skorge won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.26 seconds and Hurst won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.9 seconds. Skorge’s time qualified him for the state community college championships in May.

In the women’s division, Santa Monica won 16 of 23 events to defeat Pierce, 61-53. Santa Monica led, 61-19, after 18 events but had no entrants in the last five events because all of its competitors had appeared in the maximum three events.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Ron Dugar had 11 kills and Joe Sorensen added 10 kills and two blocks as Pierce defeated La Verne, 15-4, 15-1, 15-7, in a nonconference match match at Pierce. Erik Peters added three blocks for Pierce (4-2). La Verne is 2-6.
