Federal Aviation Administration records show that the pilot of a commuter plane that crashed and burned at Detroit Metropolitan Airport had been cited twice for safety violations and the line, Northwest Airlink, had been cited six times for maintenance and equipment deficiencies since 1979, the Detroit News reported. National Transportation Safety Board spokesman Mike Benson said that investigators were still examining the wreckage from the accident last Wednesday. The plane cartwheeled and exploded into an upside-down crash landing, killing nine people, including pilot David W. Sherer, and injuring 13 others.
