Pacific 10 Men’s Swimming : Stanford Coasts to Sixth Consecutive Championship

Jeff Kostoff, Sean Murphy and Anthony Mosse of Stanford each won their races Saturday to help the Cardinal wrap up its sixth straight Pacific 10 men’s swimming championship at the Cerritos Olympic Swim Center.
Mosse set a conference record in winning the 200-yard butterfly in 1 minute 44.63 seconds. Kostoff won the 1,650-yard freestyle in 14:57.74, and Murphy took the 200-yard backstroke in 1:47.36.
Stanford, the two-time defending NCAA champion, finished the meet with 750 1/2 points. California was second with 571 1/2 points, followed by Arizona State, 440; USC, 402 1/2; UCLA, 359 1/2; Arizona, 295, and Washington, 128.
Cal’s Matt Biondi won the 100-yard freestyle in 43.64, more than two seconds ahead of teammate Joel Thomas. The Bears also took the 400-yard freestyle relay when their team of T.A. DeBiase, Tommy Werner, Thomas and Biondi was timed in 2:57.47, nine-hundredths of a second ahead of Stanford.
Arizona State’s Peter Boden won the 200-yard breaststroke in 1:59.66.
