Jose Canseco, the American League Rookie of the Year last season, agreed to contract terms with the Oakland A’s three days after ending his holdout and reporting to spring training.
Canseco, who had 33 home runs and 117 RBIs last season, was seeking $200,000, about half his original demand. He said the contract was “close enough” to that figure.
“With the base salary and incentives, it could go to $200,000,” he said, adding that the team had come up from its offer of a $150,000 base salary.
