The northeast quarter of the nation was treated to record-breaking warm temperatures, the sixth consecutive day of record highs across the country, while a Canadian cold front was close behind. “The National Weather Service urges you to drop those convertible tops, remove sunroofs, put on a pair of shorts and barbecue with extreme abandon as this will be the last of the warm weather for at least several days,” said forecaster Keith Dicks in Flint, Mich., where the mercury hit a record 72 degrees for the date. Temperatures hit record or record-tying highs in at least 45 cities from the Plains to the East Coast, the National Weather Service said.
