U.S. Consults Allies on Missiles

WASHINGTON — The United States, moving to complete a proposed treaty eliminating medium-range nuclear missiles from Europe, summoned defense experts from five allied nations today to help devise a verification system to present to the Soviets.
Representatives from Belgium, the Netherlands, Britain, West Germany and Italy met at the State Department to study details of proposals the United States will make to the Soviets at Geneva arms talks. The five allies provide sites for the U.S. intermediate-range missiles that would be eliminated under the proposed treaty.
