Heiichiro Ohyama and David Alan Miller have been named assistant conductors of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Ohyama, principal violist since 1979, began his new post March 1, while Miller, a former Philharmonic Institute Conducting Fellow and currently leader of the Symphonies for Youth programs, will assume his new post July 1. Ohyama and Miller will share podium duties at Symphonies for Youth events, in-school programs and community concerts, as well as assist in sectional rehearsals. They also will conduct at Hollywood Bowl and serve as understudies for the orchestra’s winter and summer seasons.
