A thief stole an original Claude Monet painting from a Marshalltown, Iowa, community center and damaged the artwork by cutting it out of its frame, police said Friday. An unidentified man reportedly entered the Fisher Community Center an hour before closing at 10 p.m. Thursday and used a sharp object to quickly cut the 1890s painting of fishing boats from its frame, which was bolted to the wall, authorities said. Officials say in his haste, the thief cut a jagged edge around one side of the frame, damaging the painting.
