Brea : City Wins Grant to Help Fund Street Widening
- Share via
The city has received a $2.2-million grant to begin widening Imperial Highway in an effort to reduce rush-hour congestion, city officials said.
The grant, awarded by the Orange County Transportation Commission as part of the Orange County Unified Transportation Trust (ORCUTT) Fund state highway program, comes from interest accrued on funds accumulated for mass transit.
It was one of nine projects chosen by OCTC from a group of 14 applications, according to city spokeswoman Bonnie Dwyer.
The Imperial Highway project is expected to cost $10.5 million, including $3.3 million for acquisition of rights-of-way and $7.2 million for construction. The OCTC grant will go toward construction, and a federal grant of $2.85 million will cover about 86% of the acquisition costs.
