A passenger on a Rapid Transit District bus was shot and wounded by an unknown assailant as the bus made a routine stop, Los Angeles police reported. The gunman, described only as a male about 19 years of age, was waiting at a bus stop at 53rd Street and Compton Avenue, Newton Division Lt. Art Ruditsky said, when the bus pulled up. “The suspect opened the rear window from the outside and shot three times,” he said, apparently at random. The gunman remained at large. The victim, Juvenal Carrasco of Los Angeles, was sitting near the rear of the bus with his wife, when he was shot in the neck, chest and groin. He was hospitalized in critical condition.
