MONTREAL — Buses and subways rolled on a regular schedule Sunday for the first time in a month as striking drivers returned to work and maintenance workers accepted a contract offer, averting a strike they had threatened to begin today.
On Sunday, transit commission mechanics voted 69% in favor of a new contract giving them 4% wage increases in the first and second year of the accord and 4.8% in the third. Mechanics have an average hourly wage of $13.11.
Bus and subway drivers had voted Saturday, with 81% of them favoring a contract giving them a 12.8% wage increase over three years.
