Criminal charges have been brought against a Los Angeles physician, two members of his staff and a Los Angeles pharmacy owner in connection with a drug-diversion operation, authorities said. The California attorney general’s office said that Leonard Lee Harris, a physician with offices on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard; Perry Joe Humphrey, who operates Buckingham Pharmacy, and La Tonya Turnipseed were arrested last week. The other suspect, Amberretta Mae Cain, is expected to surrender within a few days, authorities said. The four face a variety of charges, including grand theft, filing false Medi-Cal claims, distributing controlled substances and writing prescriptions without medical grounds. They were named in a complaint issued after a series of undercover operations by state agents.
