Handful

I can hold my peace no longer. During the past year I have read in The Times about a handful of battleships, a handful of cities, a handful of countries, and a handful of buildings.
Now, in an otherwise excellent article (Opinion, May 17), Kevin Phillips has treated us to a handful of candidates for President. How many is that?
Perhaps the time has come for a new editorial policy at The Times. No writer will be permitted to use this expression unless the objects in question really will fit in the palm of the hand.
Of course it may only apply to a handful of your writers.
