Richard Wells of New Zealand swam 1.5 kilometers and ran 10 kilometers in 54 minutes 18 seconds at Dana Point to win a biathlon event of the U. S. Triathlon Series.
Scott Molina of Boulder, Colo., was second in 54:26. Karen Smyers of Sonerville, Mass., led the women in 1:01:02.
