A young couple escaped when their light plane went into the ocean and sank off the Long Beach breakwater just before 11:30 a.m. Lisa Ward, 19, of Lakewood, and Jim Marcella, 26, of Downey, crawled out of the wreckage of the Cessna 150 before it sank. They were pulled from the water by the crew of the fishing boat, Sea Raider, and were taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Long Beach. Attendants there said Ward had a slight bruise on her foot. Marcella, the pilot, was uninjured.
