Turkish President Kenan Evren said that Turkey may review its membership in the Atlantic Alliance because of a European Parliament resolution last week asserting that Turkey should acknowledge the 1915 killing of Armenians as genocide before gaining membership in the European Communities. “What kind of friendship is this? What kind of alliance is this?” Evren asked. Turkey applied for membership in the Common Market in April. Turkish leaders have also charged that the resolution gave encouragement to Kurdish rebels who massacred 30 Turkish villagers Saturday.
