Peter Biskind, editor of American Film magazine for the last six years, has jumped ship to become one of two executive editors at Premiere, Murdoch Publications’ new mass-market movie magazine. “I think I’ve done just about all I can do at American Film,” said Biskind, adding that the last attempt at a broad-based film magazine, The Movies (three issues in 1984), failed because “it just didn’t have the money behind it to stay alive until it found its audience--which is one problem we don’t face.” Still, even with the Rupert Murdoch media clout behind Premiere, he said, “I don’t believe it will blow American Film out of the water, but it will certainly feel the waves.”
