Newport Beach : Pedestrian Hit by Car Dies; Man Arrested

A Newport Beach man was booked into Newport City Jail Friday morning on suspicion of misdemeanor drunk driving in connection with the death of a pedestrian on Jamboree Road, police said.
Richard Clayton Locey, 62, of Hawaii was running across Jamboree Road between Bison Avenue and Ford Road about 11:15 p.m. Thursday when he was struck by a car traveling south on Jamboree, Officer Paul Henisey said. Charles Baldwin Ranson, 21, the alleged driver of the car, sustained minor injuries and was treated and released at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, police said.
Police said Ranson was driving at the speed limit--50 m.p.h.--at the time of the accident. Bail was set at $1,000.
