Rolls-Royce plans a powerful new aircraft engine.

Expected is a more powerful version of the firm’s RB211-524D4D engine for a new generation of medium-range and long-range civil aircraft beginning in 1992. The new derivative, called the Dash 700, is at the engineering design stage and still must be approved by the Rolls-Royce board. The new engine will have an increased thrust of 65,000 pounds, compared to 58,000 pounds for the 524D4D, and will be targeted at aircraft such as McDonnell Douglas’ MD-11, Airbus Industrie’s A330 and the Boeing 767.
