A teen-aged driver died and her passenger was critically injured Monday when the driver apparently lost control of the car, hit a raised center divider and crashed into a tree, police said.
Kimberly Able, 16, of Seal Beach was declared dead at Memorial Medical Center of Long Beach about 1 1/2 hours after the 11 a.m. collision, a hospital spokesman said. Her passenger, Brenna Bosanko, 16, of Cypress was listed in critical condition at the hospital, where she was being treated for multiple leg and arm fractures and a head injury.
Able and Bosanko were westbound on Lampson Avenue near Candleberry Avenue when the car left the road and struck a tree. Police said no other vehicles were involved and they do not know why Able apparently lost control of the car.
It took firefighters using crowbars more than 20 minutes to free the two from the wreck. Neither was wearing a seat belt, police said.
