Poindexter to Lead Hometown Parade

ODON, Ind. — Rear Adm. John M. Poindexter, the former national security adviser to President Reagan, will return to his hometown Aug. 18 as grand marshal of the town’s annual parade, town officials said Friday.
Poindexter, who completed testimony this week before congressional investigators probing the Iran- contra affair, will speak during Odon’s Old Settlers Days celebration, said John Myers, editor of the town’s weekly newspaper.
The town board had invited Poindexter and his family to the celebration earlier this month.
A street that runs in front of the town’s old high school will be officially dedicated as “John Poindexter Street” during the celebration. A sign naming the three-block stretch for Poindexter was stolen last November and held for ransom by a local resident, but later was returned.
