Jimmy Carter and Family Members Say Prayers for Billy

Former President Jimmy Carter and family members prayed during a Sunday church service for Carter’s younger brother, Billy, diagnosed as suffering from inoperable pancreatic cancer.

Billy Carter, 50, remained in stable condition at Emory University Hospital, where he was admitted on Wednesday, hosptial spokeswoman Judy Smith said.

Smith said Carter will remain in intensive care for at least another day and then be transferred to another room for continued monitoring. He is expected to be able to go home in less than 10 days, she said.

The former President and his wife, Rosalynn, attended services at the Marantha Baptist Church in Plains, where Jimmy Carter teaches Sunday school.

The Rev. Daniel Ariail mentioned Billy Carter in his sermon, after which there was a brief moment of silent prayer.
