A majority of the top executives at Fortune 500 companies said their teen-age children should select careers that will make them happy, according to a poll by Dunhill Personnel System Inc. When asked to choose among broad career categories or whatever would make a son or daughter happy, 71% of the more than 200 high-level executives surveyed chose happiness. Only 11% said that they would tell their teen-agers to consider earning potential, and 8% said that their children should seek a career in which the child would be able to reach the executive suite.
