Local News in Brief : Supervisors OK Asking State for AIDS Funds
- Share via
County supervisors Tuesday gave the public health department permission to ask the state for $65,000 to help AIDS patients find home nursing, hospice care and housing.
The funds would be used to hire two public health nurses to implement the program.
Forty-six cases of AIDS have been reported in the county, and about dozen more reports are expected by the end of the year, health officials said. Just 14 AIDS patients are still alive, they said.
The supervisors are also organizing a committee to study the fiscal and legal obligations that the county may incur in caring for AIDS victims.
