‘Lost’ Cruise Bookings
I believe the article by Toni Taylor of Sept. 6 regarding “lost” cruise bookings was well-intentioned but may have misled some readers. As the largest operator of cruise-only travel agencies in the United States, we have never had a client bumped from a ship due to being on a discount or group fare. What is important to note is that many cruise lines do not assign cabin numbers for groups until the sailing is finalized.
Not getting a cabin number is not necessarily an indication of a standby program. Like any other large purchases, it is wise for the potential buyer to check out the agency with which he intends to do business. A good cruise agency provides value and service. There’s no need to sacrifice either in search of the perfect cruise vacation.
