Ivanne Maria Soto--said to be the only female film director in Puerto Rico--says she is pleased to participate in the first Latin American and Caribbean Women’s Film Festival currently being held in Mexico, a San Juan newspaper reported. “This new kind of leadership in cinematography is important because films reflect our native cultures,” Soto said. The film festival, which is scheduled to continue until Thursday, highlights feature-length films--including Soto’s 1985 “Reflections of a Desire” and several documentaries directed by women.
