25 Hurt as Sudanese Protest Price Boosts

CAIRO — Twenty-five people were injured in Khartoum on Sunday in clashes between Sudanese police and students demonstrating against new price increases, Egypt’s Middle East News Agency reported.
The government of Prime Minister Sadek Mahdi announced a 44% devaluation of the Sudanese pound against the dollar on Saturday and immediately raised sugar and gasoline prices in a bid to get fresh international loans.
In the first public reaction to the measures, student demonstrators threw rocks and chanted slogans denouncing the government and the International Monetary Fund, the news agency.
