Cowan Heights : Missing Youth Found Staying at Friend’s

A police search for a missing 9-year-old boy, which began Friday night and involved about 20 officers, police dogs and a helicopter, ended Saturday when the youth called home.

Police set up a mobile command post and, along with neighbors, began searching the neighborhood around the Kings Crown Road home of Timothy Chen at about 5 p.m. when he failed to return from a local recreation center.

The officers had worked throughout the night when Chen telephoned home Saturday morning, telling his parents he had stayed at a friend’s house and forgot to call, according to Lt. Harold Schaffroth of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
