The Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday voted to offer a long-abandoned, 520-acre parcel in Saugus for sale or lease.
By an 11-0 vote, the city staff was directed to solicit bids for the Bouquet Canyon Road property, which the city bought in 1951 for use an alcoholic rehabilitation center, which closed in 1967. Several council members said the land should be leased out for use as a mobile home park to replace parks displaced by redevelopment in Los Angeles and elsewhere.
City Administrative Officer Keith Comrie said sale of the land, which has been mentioned over the year as site for a prison or facility for the homeless, will bring at least $10 million.
