CAMPAIGN ’88 : It’s Babbitt! ‘Live’

Live from New York . . . It’s Bruce Babbitt! Yes, Democratic presidential hopeful Bruce Babbitt will make a comic appearance on NBC-TV’s “Saturday Night Live” in a skit poking fun at the troubles Democratic candidates have encountered.
“He thought the script was pretty hilarious,” Babbitt spokesman Vada Manager said in Washington. After some lobbying by 12-year-old son Christopher, the former Arizona governor agreed to appear on the show, he said.
Babbitt will play himself and, in an interview, deny a character flaw, Manager said. Then the SNL cast’s interviewer will show a film, allegedly provided by a rival campaign, of Babbitt trying to slip through the express line at a supermarket with more than the 10-item limit.
Babbitt plans to tape the segment while he is in New York today. No air date has been set.
