Catfish, Sturgeon Give Irvine Lake Double Lure

Big catfish have been attracting anglers to Irvine Lake, and the chance at a bonus--catching a sturgeon--has made fishing there even more appealing.

Tom Morgan of Redondo Beach had this week’s top fish, a 45-pound catfish he caught using cut mackerel. Jim Arnold of Fullerton was next with a 31 1/2-pound catfish.

Craig Reed of Fullerton was fishing for catfish as well, but instead caught a 6-pound 12-ounce white sturgeon, the second taken there since hundreds were planted in late September.
