The Quebec Nordiques, citing a poor record and mounting pressure on Coach Andre Savard, fired the rookie coach and named Ron Lapointe to replace him. Under Savard, the Nordiques were 10-13-1 and in fourth place in the Adams Division, 17 points behind the leading Montreal Canadiens.
