Retreats Pay Off
For years private industry has been using retreats to improve its management skills and service to the public. It’s good to see Orange County government borrow a page from that book by staging overnight retreats for the county’s top-level managers.
The sessions, held away from the job site to ensure concentration, are not social gatherings. They are all-day (and evening) work sessions designed to make government more efficient and responsive. One session included a priest who raised the public officials’ awareness about the county’s homeless.
It’s money well spent. The potential return for the small expense involved makes the retreats a worthwhile investment that other local agencies should consider.
